3 Simple Questions to Help You Choose Your Cloth Diaper Faster

Questions to Help You Choose Your Cloth Diaper

Have you gotten yourself overthinking while trying to choose your cloth diapers? I will ask you 3 simple questions to help you choose your cloth diaper faster.

Let’s face it, with so much information on cloth diapers out there, finding your best system can be daunting.

I still remember my first steps in choosing my stash. Truth be told, I got immensely overwhelmed by all the info I wasn’t able to digest. Rapidly, I ended up making no decision at all and walked away from my idea of cloth diapering. That took me six months to go ahead and start researching them again.

There is so much conversation about cloth diapers that sometimes it feels intimidating and confusing. It shouldn’t be that way. Why make it so hard?

Down the road you will see that what you really need is way less than you thought you would.

Choosing Your Cloth Diapers- Is There a Best Way?

If I could give you a piece of advice to make your life a bit easier while choosing your diapers, it would be for you to see what your needs are and to pace your search.

Choosing your Cloth diaper can honestly be daunting but it does not have to be.

I get it, as a parent introducing ANYTHING new to our child, we want to make sure we inform ourselves well enough to make a good decision.

And if you are anything like me, chances are that you will either figure it out in your first attempt (not me) or you’ll end up running around in circles (that is definitely me).

The way I look at it- it is just cloth!

In the end, that’s all it is! You might disagree with me, but until I started seeing things this way, I couldn’t get my head around it. What for?

Of course, there are the different types of fabric which can be fairly easy to decide.

Choosing your diapers

The best way I found to choose my cloth diapers was asking myself these simple questions. And I hope it helps you figure things out a little quicker as well.

Questions that might help you along:

1-What are your needs? Why do you want to cloth diaper in the first place?

This will give you a solid idea from where to start. Health concerns was the reason why I insisted looking into cloth diapers for the second time.

But you might have different reasons. You may want to save some money. Maybe dispose less unnecessary trash in the land fill or simply try a gentler option.

2- What are you looking for in a cloth diaper? What do you expect from them?

You might be looking for a diaper that is easy to use, dries faster and performs well. Maybe a diaper that disassembles easily to be better cleaned. A brand that is more affordable and has great reviews.

I needed a diaper that performed well, was affordable and had great reviews. And I didn’t know a thing about it but I ruled out clearly what I was looking for.

Whichever is the case, ask yourself first.

3-How much do you want or can you spend on a stash?

This question will narrow down your options greatly! Trust me on this one. Especially if budget is an issue.

Decide on the maximum amount you would be willing to or can spend on your diapers.

Cloth diapers can go down the expensive route too. They can add up quickly in your budget.

Keep in mind that just because a diaper is less expensive, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t perform well. Of course, there are exceptions, but for the most part it’s a big myth.

Also, just because you are on a budget- I was- it doesn’t mean that you won’t find what you want.

If budget is not an issue, you’ll have plenty of options and will be good to go.

Answering these questions will make your search much smoother. Trust me!

Now that you have answers for those questions, search for diapers that will be a good fit for you.

Then the next step is to learn about a few different types of cloth diapers, how they work and how they can fulfill your needs.

From this point, since I had a budget for it, I looked for diapers that would fit my budget. I eliminated all of those that wouldn’t, no matter how in love I would be with that cute print. So I narrowed it down quickly.

Trust me, once you start using the diapers the last thing you’ll notice is the print. What you’ll really look for is how well they do the job.

But it is all up to where you are at that moment. Just be confident with your choices.

Choosing the perfect system is where we get stuck the most. You do not have to know/have every single system because in truth they derive from the simple classic ones.

It is good to know what is out there, but if they sound too confusing and TMI just move on.

All the different types of diapers will make it more challenging to choose. Adding to it the acronyms. Just know that a diaper is mostly made by a waterproofing barrier and a cloth inner layer and absorbent inserts. Period!

They will differ in the way they feel but they mostly have the same function and structure. The most used waterproofing barrier is TPU which is a plastic, but you also have mink and wool.

Do not stress about it and make it simple on you.

That is the best way I quickly chose my cloth diapers! How did it go for you?
